Goals of breeding Can be summoned in a well developed toller with will to please, drive and good health.
Exterior We try to look for combinations to receive a compact, nice toller within the Standard. Historically there were big, heavy doghshowtollers that in our point of view, couldnīt adjust and cope with the working skills demanded. Nowadays, you also see the opposite - the thin kind. In whole, we strive for the compact, but not to heavy toller with a good backline and well angulated for a good drive in workingsituations.
Will to please and drive The tollerīs made for work, and for this you need joy, will to please and drive. Our strive could be maximum of everything, but today you see breeding just in those abilities, which leads to stress. This could instead destroy the toller, so a match of everything with a lot of joy to work with quiteness and no stress is one of our goals.
Good health The toller is a fairly healthy breed. Statistics of hip- and elbow dysplasia is kept at a low level. Within the breed, some lines are predisposed for eyediseases like PRA, but is also remained at a low level. Today you see diffuse symptoms, that could relate to autoimmune diseases, but within the organization, work is done to try and detect those symtoms and relate them to a healthproblem, to try and cure and prevent them in the future. Within the Swedish TollerClub, there are healthprograms for
all of these diseases, which we as a kennel of course engage in. That means that
we strive to have all offspring x-rayed hips and elbows before 18 months, and
breeding material is checked for eyes within a year before mating. We also check
the breeding dog if carrier of PRA with a DNA-analysis.
As a kennel we have completed the education for breeders of The Swedish TollerClub, which means that we are aware and follow the rules and policy of The Swedish Kennel Club and The Swedish Toller Club, and continuously engage in problems and questions concerning genetics&breeding, mentality and diseases of our toller.
